First ever delegation of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will go to Tbilissi and Erevan on 19-21 October 2009.

The delegation will present its opinion, "Civil society involvement in implementing the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) Action Plans in the countries of Southern Caucasus" to various local representatives of civil society organisations (employers, trade unions, farmers, consumers, NGOs). The delegation will also meet representatives of Georgian and Armenian authorities.

In its opinion, the EESC considers that local civil society organisations have not played a significant role in the elaboration or the implementation of the Action Plans signed in 2006 within the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy. Therefore it sees the planned negotiations of Association Agreements as well as the multilateral Eastern Partnership initiative as good opportunities to really involve civil society organisations.

This delegation will be composed of Mr Andrzej Adamczyk , rapporteur of the opinion and Vice-President of the Employees Group of the EESC; Ms Mall Hellam , Vice-President of the Various Interests Group of the EESC; and Mr Ivan Voles , President of the Eastern Neighbours Contact Group of the EESC. It is the first visit of Members of the EESC to countries of South Caucasus.
