The 27 Members of the European Court of Auditors today re-elected Mr. da Silva Caldeira as the Court’s President for a second three-year term. The President supervises the performance of the Court’s work and represents the institution in its external relations.
Mr Vítor Manuel da Silva Caldeira is Portuguese, and became a member of the European Court of Auditors in March 2000. He was elected as the institution’s 10th President in January 2008. During his first term of office he oversaw a reform of the Court’s structure and decision-making through the introduction of a chamber system. These reforms streamlined the management of the Court, making it more efficient and able to use its resources in the most effective manner.
Prior to becoming President, Mr da Silva Caldeira was Dean of the Court’s CEAD Group, which has responsibility for coordination, evaluation, assurance, development and communication. Between January 2002 and March 2006 he was Member responsible for the Court’s statement of assurance.
Before joining the Court, Mr da Silva Caldeira held various senior positions in the Portuguese national administration, dealing with audit and financial control. For a detailed curriculum vitae, please see CV.
