Catherine Ashton i appoints new Heads of EU Delegations to Brazil and the UN organisations in Geneva.

Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Commission Vice-President, today appointed Ana Paula Baptista Grade Zacarias as new Head of the EU Delegation to Brazil and Mariangela Zappia as Head of the EU Delegation to the UN organisations in Geneva.

"It gives me particular pleasure to make these two appointments on International Women's Day," said Catherine Ashton. "These are two very talented and experienced diplomats who I am certain will make a major contribution to the work of the European External Action Service. Their appointment shows my firm commitment to gender balance in the EEAS i."

Ana Paula Baptista Grade Zacarias is currently Portuguese Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU, and previously held posts in the Portuguese diplomatic service including Ambassador to Estonia. Mariangela Zappia is currently at the Italian Mission to the UN organisations in Geneva and has held a number of posts in the Italian foreign ministry.

Today's appointments follow Catherine Ashton's decision last month to appoint Jana Hybášková i as the new Head of European Union Delegation to Iraq.
