Italië ontvangt EU-steun voor studie naar makkelijker begaanbare binnenwateren (en)
A study to assess the feasibility of equipping north Italian waterways with River Information Services (RIS) is to receive over €2.5 million in EU co-funding from the 2010 TEN i-T Multi-Annual Call. Once completed, the study will pave the way for smarter inland waterway transport in the region, thus making it more efficient and ecologically sound, while at the same time increasing vessel traffic safety in general.
The study aims to define the technical, legal and organisational requirements for the implementation of a RIS system on the Northern Italian Waterway System (NIWS) in order to increase levels of efficiency, safety and integration in the logistics chain.
The study is aimed at the implementation of a RIS pilot scheme to test the viability and the effectiveness of the system. A RIS centre, four base stations, the equipment of 20 vessels and a software prototype will be realised as part of this pilot scheme.
The study paves the way for full RIS implementation on Italy’s northern waterways and will allow an eventual increase of traffic capacity, improved safety and enhanced reliability and attractiveness of the inland navigation system as a whole.
The project will run until the end of 2013
