Thursday 25th of August, Clingendael Asia Studies organizes an expert meeting with Imtiaz Gul, who will present his views on the Pakistan-US relationship in the context of the geopolitical balance in the region. How has the raid on the home of Osama Bin Laden impacted the US relation with Pakistan? Which place do bilateral US-Pakistan ties have in relation to regional developments such as the war in Afghanistan, evolving US-India ties, and the rise of China? Is Pakistan moving closer to China, and away from the United States? During the informal meeting there will be opportunity to discuss these and related issues.
Imtiaz Gul is one of the leading media persons of Pakistan focusing on the issues of politics, governance, security, terrorism and religious extremism. His last book The most dangerous place; Pakistan’s lawless frontier was released in June 2011. He has been writing for The Muslim newspaper, once the only English daily from Islamabad and contributed Pakistan, FATA and Afghanistan specific articles to the German Press Agency (DPA). He also hosts a weekly political talk show on one of Pakistan’s leading TV channel, Hum TV, besides regularly appearing on Al-Jazeera English/Arabic TV plus local TV channels for comments.
This will be a closed, informal meeting under the Chatham House Rule.
