Energie Raad EU-VS: Gezamenlijke persverklaring (en)

In June 2009, this co-operation was given a boost with the proposal of the USA to establish an EU-US Energy Council. The agreed terms of reference of the Council are broad and designed to bring together all key actors working on energy issues on both sides of the Atlantic, in three areas for which corresponding working groups were established: Energy security, Energy technologies research and Energy policy.

There have been three EU-US Energy Council ministerial meetings, which in turn have reported to the EU-US Summits:

In November 2009, the establishment and objectives of the EU-US Energy Council was agreed at the EU-US Summit in Washington and a first inaugural meeting took place in the margins of the Summit.

On 19 November 2010, the second meeting took place in Lisbon, the day before the EU-US Summit.

On 28 November 2011, the third meeting took place in Washington just before the EU-US Summit and the day before the meeting of the Trans-Atlantic Economic Council.

On 5 December 2012, the fourth meeting took place in Brussels.

Energy-efficient labelling programs

On 29th November 2011, the EU and the US initialled a new Energy Star EU-US Agreement on the coordination of energy-efficient labelling programs for office equipment. Energy Star is part of the Community strategy to better manage energy demand, contribute to security of energy supply and mitigate climate change.

Electric Vehicles and Grid Connectivity

On 17 November 2010, a trans-Atlantic expert workshop on Electric Vehicles and Grid Connectivity was held in Brussels organised jointly by the European Commission, the Belgian Presidency of the EU, the Swedish Government and the US Department of Energy.
