The Budgetary Control Committee endorsed the nominations of the Greek, French, Luxembourgish, Dutch and UK candidates for the Court of Auditors in five secret ballots on Monday. A round of half-hour hearings had already been held on 7 November. The candidatures now go to the full Parliament for a final vote in December.

The committee backed the nominations of the following new candidates:

  • Mr Nikolaos Milionis (EL)
  • Ms Danièle Lamarque (FR)
  • Mr Phil Wynn Owen (UK)

It also recommended the renewal of the mandate of:

  • Mr Henri Grethen (LU).

Before the hearing in November, the new candidates were asked to reply to the questionnaire in the draft report by Ms Inés Ayala Sender i (S&D, ES). Only the British candidate declined to state that he would withdraw his candidature if Parliament voted against it.

Background

Members of the Court of Auditors are appointed for six years. They are nominated by member states but it is the Council that decides on the final appointments, after consulting Parliament.
