Italy passes controversial election reform

The Italian parliament on Monday approved an electoral reform aimed to give the country more political stability. The new system will secure a majority of 340 out of 630 seats to any party that wins more than 40 percent of the national vote. Opposition parties boycotted Monday's vote.
