On 5 May in Brussels, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) held a conference on EU energy security, providing stakeholders from the EU institutions, Member States, the energy industry and academia with a neutral and independent platform to discuss the short and long term energy security of the EU.

Panel discussions focused on two key areas: the obstacles to completing the internal energy market, and gas transit via Ukraine.

The conference was chaired by ECA Members Phil Wynn Owen and Szabolcs Fazakas i. An opening address was given by ECA President Vitor Caldeira, and Vice President of the Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, delivered a keynote speech.

Energy security is among the priorities in the ECA's work programme for 2015, with our audit reports on energy supply and EU assistance to Ukraine expected to be published on our website towards the end of the year.
