Strasbourg court tells Italy to recognize gay civil union

The Strasbourg-based European Court of human rights said Tuesday Italy needs to introduce a form of civil union for same-sex couples. "[T]he legal protection currently available in Italy to same-sex couples ... failed to provide for the core needs relevant to a couple in a stable committed relationship", it said.
