May 2018 issue of the ECA Journal
As an EU institution the ECA receives annually many visitors and hosts numerous meetings and conferences. But the Global Audit Leadership Forum - GALF - the ECA hosted on 26-27 April 2018 was clearly one out of the ordinary, with leaders in public audit from supreme audit institutions (SAIs) from almost all continents participating. The main purpose of GALF is to consider ideas, common problems and possible solutions among peers in an informal setting. Sharing knowledge for the purpose of innovation was even more amplified by the two discussion items selected, namely on carrying out performance audits in a political context, and on communicating audit findings in a digital world. We have made the 2018 GALF the special theme of this Journal edition to provide you insights on what was discussed, how an informal setting was created, and how GALF participants experienced the 2018 GALF meeting.
This edition starts with an interview with ECA President Klaus-Heiner Lehne, and we give the floor to several of his peers and other participants to hear what they took back from this GALF edition and how they experienced it. This includes an article from the next host of GALF, Deputy Auditor General Qin Boyong of the National Audit Office of China. We also cover the cocktail of topics covered in the discussions. Instrumental in the discussions were the points raised by the two keynote speakers, Ann Mettler of the European Commission’s internal think tank and Jörg Müller-Lietzkow, Professor for media economic and media management. For creating an informal atmosphere and ensuring a lively discussion the ECA had engaged Michel Huissoud and Brigitte Christ, President and Vice-President of the Swiss SAI. In an interview they share some of their magic tricks.
